The thinking behind this myth goes something like this: "We already manage and secure Windows desktops. If we can deliver those to smartphones and tablets, without any data actually living on the device, we're golden!" IT administrators who espouse this approach probably haven't tried using virtual desktops on mobile devices. Virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) is good in a pinch, if you need to access a Windows app and there's no other alternative, but overall, the mouse-driven interface doesn't translate well to touchscreens. Plus, mobile VDI doesn't take advantage of all the cool things smartphones and tablets can do that PCs can't.
