The iPad 2 is available with 16, 32 and 64 GB flash drive options. All varieties come with Wi-Fi Internet access; for a higher price, the consumer can purchase 3G service to get Internet access through either AT&T or Verizon. It has ten hours of battery life and can be charged during use.
The iPad 2, which uses Apple's latest mobile operating system (iOS 4.3), combines the computing power of a laptop or desktop computer with the portability of a smartphone. iPad 2 can surf the internet with Safari, Apple’s web browser, receive and send email messages, share photos and slideshows, watch videos on YouTube, chat with other Apple users using FaceTime (a video-chatting software) and listen to music on iTunes.
In addition to the standard features, Apple also offers an app store with thousands of free and paid apps with functions ranging from games and entertainment to business and education, including traditional Apple programs like GarageBand and iMovie.
The iPad 2 differs from its predecessor, the iPad, in a number of ways.
- A dual core CPU makes the iPad 2 up to nine times faster than the iPad.
- The iPad 2 contains two cameras -- one rear-facing and one front-facing.
- At 8.8 mm thick, the iPad 2 is 33% thinner and .2 lbs lighter than the original.
- Both black and white models are available for the iPad 2.
