Do you think that 3G technologies will increase adoption of wireless adoption by healthcare professionals? If so, could you provide any examples?
There are clear advantages to 3G technologies that can apply to certain classes of healthcare professionals that should drive the adoption of the technology. For example, streaming video imagery, remote imagery, etc can be contemplated only with the network speeds provided by 3G. This use, however, might be via 3G cards added to laptops as opposed to small-screen phones. In addition, this use would be "relatively" price insensitive ... particularly for acute care uses. Other aspects of healthcare, for example, clinical trials with slow and periodic need to capture data simply might not be able to cost justify the use of 3G. And traditional back-office applications like billing, scheduling, etc are perfect to extend to mobile healthcare workers with today's existing wireless data networks.
