Wi-Fi for the Enterprise, Chapter 1

This chapter looks at several of the wireless alternatives available to businesses and telecommuters, and examines the applications for which they are best suited.

Wi-Fi in Perspective

Of all the communications services available today, wireless services are having the most dramatic impact on our personal and professional lives, enhancing personal productivity, mobility, and security. In particular, the impact of cellular phone services on our lives is well documented, but Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) also promises to have a dramatic effect in the near future. Many other wireless technologies are available.

To put Wi-Fi into the proper context, this chapter looks at several of the other wireless alternatives available to businesses and telecommuters, and examines the applications for which they are best suited.
