- Web texting is two-way text messaging from the Web to a handheld mobile device, usually a cellular phone.
Traditionally, SMS (short message service) messages are sent from one handheld device to another. As mobile providers have improved their Web sites, it has become possible for subscribers to log on and send text messages to cell phones from the online account. Web sites known as SMS gateways allow computer users to send text messages to handheld devices.
