SILVER AWARD:
HP Compaq nx6125 Notebook PC

Targeted for small and midsized businesses, Hewlett-Packard's Compaq nx6125 Notebook PC is billed as "thin and light." The notebook starts at $999, but don't let that fool you. HP doesn't skimp on product here.

The scratch- and scuff-resistant notebook has integrated biometrics, wireless LAN connectivity, a 15-inch display, nice-sized memory and hard drive capacity, and a variety of optical drive choices. It runs out of the box on Microsoft Windows XP operating systems and is based on AMD64, an industry standard platform.

Talk about secure, this Compaq -- shipped in June -- scans fingerprints, offers a smart card reader, has a single sign-on password solution, and features a drivelock that protects data even if the notebook is lost or stolen. It also has the most recent Norton AntiVirus pre-installed and a three-year warranty to boot.

And when you're on the go, this bad boy has a boosted battery life and boasts a quick-charge feature when it is docked. It gives all the appearances of working at the desktop and has one-touch buttons to get to frequently used applications and Web sites.
