SILVER AWARD: Motorola A780
Mobile e-mail solutions are all the rage right now among enterprises, and Motorola has a device that plays right into that business-user hand.
In the area of innovation, the Motorola A780 excelled in our ratings with its simultaneous candy bar and clam configuration -- the clamshell configuration is achieved via an external dialpad that opens to reveal a 2.45-inch, 65K color touchscreen display.
Motorola's mobile device available in the EMEA and Chinese markets offers a user-interaction package that includes Chinese and English handwriting recognition with user-writing style adaptation and next-word predictive word input. The EMEA Personal Navigation Package feature set also includes internal GPS as well as MOTOSYNC for on-the-go synchronization of e-mail, contacts and calendar with a Microsoft Exchange 2003 Server.
One area of performance where the Motorola product excels is in the area of multitasking. For example, the A780 lets users simultaneously listen to MP3 tunes while composing SMS messages. The device is also noted as easy-to-use due to an intuitive, touchscreen user interface. Also, when browsing the Internet, pages are reformatted into a single column, with touchscreen actions that can perform zoom, scrolling and other browsing functions.
USB mass storage is also featured in the Motorola A780, enabling simplified file transfer to and from the device's internal and removable memory.
