Here's how you can improve your memory in 10 seconds or less. Get a DiskOnKey personal storage device. It's a portable hard drive that's about the size of a highlighter marker. It's so slim and lightweight you can put it on a key chain or carry it in your pocket. When you pull the cap off, you'll see a standard USB plug on the "highlighter" part of the device. Plug it directly into your USB port and VOILA -- your computer immediately recognizes it as an external drive.
DiskOnKey has a 32-bit processor, uses Flash memory, and is available in storage capacities ranging from 16 MB to 1 GB. There aren't any drivers, disks, cables or power cords to lug around, and the entire device, including cap, weighs less than an ounce. DiskOnKey is waterproof and has no moving parts. It's great for storing anything you'd usually put on a floppy or Zip disk. When you arrive at your destination, you can work directly from the DiskOnKey drive or move everything from DiskOnKey to your host computer's hard drive in about two seconds. And you can use DiskOnKey with Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems, a real plus in mixed IT environments, or a home office where there's more than one kind of computer.
The only disadvantage I can see to using DiskOnKey is that the USB port is located on the back of most computers, so it might be easy to get up and walk away without retrieving the device when you log off. Fortunately, M-Systems has added password protection for those of us absent-minded people who wouldn't remember their own heads if they weren't attached. That, and a permanent marker pen to label each DiskOnKey with the owner's name and phone number, should solve the human-memory problem.
Bottom line: I liked it so much that I bought a 32 MB DiskOnKey for every kid in our family. I wish I had one when I was a trainer. List price for 32 MB: $39.
