QUESTION POSED ON: 14 March 2005
Do you know what the prevalence is of wireless carriers who "lock down" their devices so that you can't download or install competing applications on the device? Do you know of any articles or metrics on the topic?

>
Unfortunately, carrier "lock down" is a pretty common practice. Some carriers even go so far as to disable Bluetooth to only work with wireless headsets. This, however, is a losing game for carriers & I expect to see this practice erode over time. I'm not aware of any articles or metrics, but a good source of this type of information is: www.thefeature.com.
