iPhone 5s

Contributor(s): Alyssa Wood

iPhone 5s is a smartphone from Apple that runs the iOS 7 operating system  (OS) and is powered by a 64-bit dual-core A7 processor, which Apple claims to be 2X faster than the A6 chip from the iPhone 5.

In addition to the A7 chip, Apple added another new chip called the M7 co-processor, which handles motion data from the phone's gyroscope, compass, and accelerometer. The iPhone 5s retains the iPhone 5's aluminum frame, chamfered edges and weight and dimensions, weighing just 3.9 ounces, and measuring 4.9 x 2.3 x 0.3 inches. It also has an updated camera lens with F2.2 aperture that increases image quality through higher pixel resolution. Other new camera features include slow-motion video, live video zoom and Burst Mode, which will take photos at up to 10 frames per second.

Perhaps the biggest change in iPhone 5s is Touch ID, which turns the phone's home button into a biometric fingerprint scanner,  Its setup is effortless and takes about a minute. It involves placing a finger on the sensor/Home Button multiple times and at different angles. The fingerprint is then associated with the unlock code. It can also be associated with the user's iTunes password, allowing users to unlock the phone and make app and music purchases without having to continually type in a password.
