SAP Mobile Platform (SMP)

Contributor(s): Matthew Haughn

SAP Mobile Platform (SMP) is the company’s development platform for mobile apps, with a focus on business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-customer (B2C) applications.

SMP helps users build and deploy business- and customer-facing applications or customize existing apps, which in either case may be hosted internally or cloud-based. Developers can reach SAP's 200,000 existing customers through the company's app store.

SMP features reusable components, drag-and-drop HTML5 apps, REST APIs and reusable, customizable apps from over one hundred development partners. Like most mobile enterprise application platforms, SMP provides an cross-platform mobile development environment that allows enterprises to create an application once and run it on any mobile system.

Competing mobile development offerings include IBM's MobileFirst Platform. Most mobile operating systems offer their own native app SDKs (software development kits).
